Frank Hornby established Meccano Ltd in 1907 after putting his invention, which he had named 'Mechanics Made Easy', into production. This led to the creation of the company. Hornby's factory had to be regularly moved to new and larger premises as the business grew.
In 1920, Hornby introduced toy trains, which were powered by a clockwork motor and made of metal pressings held together by Meccano nuts and bolts. The trains were '0' gauge in size. The company quickly expanded its range, introducing more engines and accessories.
The first Hornby electric train was produced in 1925, operating from a mains supply of 100-250 volts. By 1929, Hornby had developed a much safer system, and the electric models worked from a six-volt DC source.
The OO gauge Hornby trains had the following dimensions: Length: 250mm Livery: Private Owner Wheel configuration: Not specified
