The Coos Bay Lumber Company, a prominent player in the Pacific Northwest's logging industry, commenced operations in 1907, wasting no time in commencing lumber sales within a year. The company's growth was marked by the establishment of numerous logging camps and the construction of railroad tracks that allowed it to operate in the mountains of Oregon from 1916 to 1956. This period saw the company's significant influence on the development of Coos Bay, which became a major exporting hub for lumber, with the logs being stacked on sailing ships and transported to San Francisco.

The Heisler, a versatile steam locomotive, played a crucial role in the Coos Bay Lumber Company's operations, making up to three trips a day to transport log cars to and from the mountain. This efficient transportation system was instrumental in the company's success, as it facilitated the movement of timber from the forests to the shipping point.

The Coos Bay Lumber Company was widely regarded as the most innovative lumber company of its time, as logging operations were thriving across the Pacific Northwest region. To capture the authentic logging locomotive look, Rivarossi, an Italian manufacturer and part of the Hornby Hobbies family of brands, has introduced the Heisler Steam Locomotive Coos Bay Lumber Company #8 2-Truck Model HR2947 Analog or HR2947S Digital Locomotive.

Rivarossi is renowned for producing some of the most iconic steam, diesel, and electric locomotives over the past 50 years. The Heisler locomotive model is fully assembled with diecast painted bodies and includes two skeleton log cars with two different running numbers, each featuring nine logs.

These skeleton log cars, with removable logs and real chains to secure the load, capture the fine details that were commonly seen being pulled by Heisler, Climax, or Shay locomotives in the early 20th century, transporting timber from the forests across the upper Midwest and Western United States.

The rise of steam locomotives was essential in the development of the West, as they became the new workhorses in the forestry industry. These powerful machines were able to navigate the challenging terrain, hauling timber that was quickly processed in paper mills and used in the construction of new towns as the industry continued to grow and shape the previously inaccessible mountains and dense forests.

Building a model railway layout has never been easier, thanks to the wide range of products offered by Hornby. The company's Skaledale and Skale Scenics brands provide a variety of buildings, monuments, and trees, allowing modelers to add realism and depth to their layouts or dioramas.
