Hornby's stunning model locomotives, spanning the golden age of steam to the latest intercity trains, bring your miniature world to life. Whether your model railway is set in the past or the present, there is a wide choice of engines available, all in the correct livery and with appropriate rolling stock.
Choosing any of Hornby's beautiful, detailed models for your OO-gauge electric layout is a guarantee of quality. The 78000 locomotive, one of the 2MT locomotives from the first batch, entered traffic at Oswestry on 27 December 1952, replacing the GWR Dean Goods and Cambrian Railways' 0-6-0s from their local passenger and freight duties.
As the new locomotives and their crews became accustomed to their new operating areas, 78000 was dispersed to other sheds, eventually finding itself allocated to Machynlleth for work between Shrewsbury, Oswestry and the Welsh coast resorts from Aberystwyth to Portmadoc until May 1963.
In January 1964, the locomotive was transferred to Derby for use on the Shirland Colliery Branch until June 1965, when it was withdrawn from service. Please note that the box and model dimensions are shown as identical, but they only represent the box/package size.
The key details of this model are:
Operator/Livery: BR, Green Gauge: OO Period: Era 5 (1956 - 1968) Length: 215mm Designer: Robert Riddles
In summary, Hornby's stunning model locomotives offer a wide range of choices to bring your miniature world to life, whether you're recreating the golden age of steam or the latest intercity trains. With beautiful, detailed models and accurate liveries, Hornby ensures a high-quality experience for any OO-gauge electric layout enthusiast.
